How do write a good poem?

    I am a novice poet and I am wondering what I should do to be able to write a good poem?

    I don't think i'm in a position to give advice, but what i do to learn how to write is read a lot of people's works and just write my own. when i write essays or poetry, i don't think about it a lot. i heard a really good piece of advice somewhere, i forget, but it goes like this "use your heart to write and use your head to revise." when you write your first draft, just pour out your emotions and feelings, and when you revise it, read it over and ask yourself if that's what you really want to say and if it make sense, etc.

    Well first practice.

    And try to determine what kind of poems you want to write. You don't necessarily have to narrow it down to one topic but knowing what you want to write about helps.

    Find the right inspiration... but don't wait too much either or you won't write much at all... and poet's gotta eat after all! :)
