    I've found writing short stories to be a great way to practice your writing skills. And if your stories are good enough you could attempt to develop them into some sort of novel, or at least create the base for one.

    yeah, i think writing short stories is a very good way to increase and practice your writing skills too. if you think your story is good enough, you should show it to some publisher or newspaper and it might even be published.

    Yeah or a small magazine.

    That's how a lot of big time writers started off. They got published in the local media and eventually made their way up to the top.

    I've been writing short stories for a while, I love it. But now I'm writing technical articles for different websites, it may not be as good but it's good money ;)
